If aliens visit our planet and they don't want us to know, which
they obviously do not, they would be more carefull then we give them
credit for. It's roughly the same as the invasion-theory. If they want
to invade earth, they would have done so by now.
On another note, I heard that the American government is going
to announce the presence of alien life between 1997 and 2000.
I would like to know if anyone else heard that.

This is incorrect. One planet discovered is about 78ly around 70Virginis at a mass of AT LEAST 6.5 JUPITER'S! The planet around UraseMajoris is 46 ly away and has a mass of AT LEAST 2.3 Jupiters! Even the planet around 51 P was considerably larger than the Earth. What makes these so interesting is that the first two planets mentioned above, are orbiting G type main sequence stars. 51 P is not but it is quite close as a K type dwarf. Under no circumstances could these planets support human life! They are suspected to have oxygen and water, along with an atmosphere. The belief in water stemmed largely from what we believed about Jupiter. The news briefing was very disappointing in that the amount of water vapor expected to be found in Jupiter's atmosphere wasn't found. This immediately calls into question the statements about these other planets having a considerable amount of water vapor. To the best of my knowledge no source has ever attributed an oxygen atmosphere to any of these planets. As they are all believed to be gas giants, such as Jupiter, an atmosphere is highly probable. Even if the 70 Virginis is a brown dwarf, it would still contain an atmosphere.
How can anyone believe that we are the only existing intelligent life
in the universe? Life in the universe is probable. Intelligent life
in the universe iseven probable. Even if you ignore the Earth where
intelligent life is sometimes questionable, intelligent life in the
universe is probable. It is not proven, however. In addition,
intelligent life in the universe is not the same as intelligent life
visiting Earth.

Maybe we should be satisfied looking for ANY kind of living matter.
